Accommodation
You will be accommodated in spacious single or double rooms, equipped with a private toilet and shower, nightstand, wardrobe, and a bedside phone with a touchscreen TV/radio. You can also access the internet using your own computer via your patient number during your stay. We will provide you with headphones for watching TV, or you may use your own. The telephone/TV can be used for a fee using a phone card purchased on-site (plus a €5 deposit). Radio programs are free of charge. Unfortunately, calls via the ward telephone are not possible. Cell phones are permitted on our ward. However, we ask that you be considerate of other patients, which may lead to restrictions on their use.
Please bring the following:
- Bath and hygiene items
- Towels and washcloths
- Clothing (nightwear, casual leisure wear, sturdy shoes)
- Books, magazines, pen, reading glasses, etc.
Optional Services
During your stay, you have the option of availing yourself of additional optional services, such as accommodation in a single room or treatment by the chief physician. If your health insurance does not cover this, you will incur additional costs. Please understand that we cannot guarantee a single room in exceptional situations.
Valuables
We kindly ask you to leave valuables, jewelry, and large sums of money at home. We assume no liability for personal valuables or your clothing. In exceptional cases, and by prior arrangement, you may deposit valuables at the main cashier’s office on weekdays during regular business hours.
Daily Hospital Routine
Daily Routine
The daily hospital routine usually begins at 6:00 a.m. with wake-up and washing. We serve breakfast around 8:00 a.m. and lunch starting at 12:00 p.m. Coffee is served at 2:30 p.m., and dinner is available starting at 5:30 p.m. Mineral water, tea, cocoa, rusks, and broth are available upon request throughout the day. Coffee is offered until the evening. We ask for your understanding if the times change due to upcoming examinations or surgeries. The nurse in charge is happy to answer any questions you may have.
Rounds
Doctor rounds take place starting at 6:45 AM and in the afternoon. A team of doctors and nurses will visit you to discuss your further treatment and answer any questions you may have. As a university hospital and training center, prospective doctors and nurses often participate in the rounds. Medical examinations and physical therapy treatments are conducted throughout the day.
Visitors
We are pleased that your loved ones’ visits contribute to your recovery, but we ask for your understanding that, especially in the morning hours, you or your neighboring patient may have scheduled examinations that could interrupt the visit. Our quiet hours begin at 8:00 PM.
Services
There are various recreational and shopping options on the UKMD campus:
- Patient Garden 1 (behind Café Mobitz), Patient Garden 2 (behind Building 60a)
- Room of Silence (Building 60a) with evening prayer every Monday at 5:00 PM
- Coffee/Snack Bar (Building 60a)
- Cafeteria “Mobitz” (behind Building 1)
If you are unable to leave your room, please let us know. We will connect you with qualified representatives from the hospital chaplaincy or volunteer hospital assistants.
Important Information
When you leave the ward, please check out with the nursing staff and let us know how long you will be gone and where you are going!
Especially after surgery, your strength may not yet be fully restored during the recovery phase, and the large grounds may tempt you away from daily hospital life. For your safety!
